Hello Cleveland Summer League Players (past, current, and prospective)
This summer the CDA is offering TWO summer leagues on TWO different nights!
Our hope is that many players will play in both leagues and that
there is at least one league that works for you.
1. “Clique League” - A team sign up league - 5:2 Co-Ed ratio -Tuesdays from June 9th thru August 11th at Brookside Park, 9600 John Nagy Blvd, in Cleveland near the
Cleveland Zoo
-7 weeks of play and a 3 week playoff
-Captains sign up an entire team, $50 per player (includes a disc and
a genuine dry-fit jersey!)
We will be posting a forum or bulletin board, like last year, so captains can look for players, and vice versa.
-Registration is April 17th until May 21st, limited to the first 8 paid teams -Email miah@cleveland-disc.org to register, more info to follow on
2. “Draft League” - An individual player sign up league - 5:2 Co-Ed ratio -Wednesdays from June 3rd thru August 5th games at both Hawken School in Chesterland and in North Olmsted.
-10 weeks of play and an end of season tourney on Saturday august 8th.
-$50 per player (includes a disc and a genuine dry-fit jersey!) -Online individual sign up from April 17th until May 17th. The draft will be May 21st.
-Each player may “baggage” themselves to one other player (must be
mutual) and be placed on the same team.
-Late sign ups only as space allows, fee will be $75 per player -Approx. 20 teams
A note to female players - The CDA is serious about recruiting more
women to the sport:
-First year female players pay $25 per league
-Any woman may play both leagues for $50, two leagues for the price of one
We are also seeking volunteer male and female captains for the draft
league. The minimal responsibilities include score reporting,
attending the draft and ensuring fun. Both veteran and new captains
welcome. Please email me to volunteer. It’s a great way to give
back to the sport and a lot of fun…not to mention all the lost and
found discs and cleats you get.
Email me with any questions or comments.
Hey everyone, as it starts to warm up, I know many of you are itching to start playing outdoors again, I wanted to give you all an update on what is on the horizon for the CDA over the next few months. In addition to the announcements about the 1040EZ and Spring League (the posts below): 1. We are having our next CDA board meeting on March 31 (next tuesday) at 7pm. The meeting is at my house, so email me (jefflazarus@hotmail.com) if you want to attend and i’ll send you the address and directions. It is open to anyone who wants to come. 2. For quite awhile, the CDA has wanted to start a Juniors league for local high school ultimate teams. In order to gain awareness of this, Cleveland Disc Association is putting on a Juniors Tournament on Saturday April 25th. It will either be at Garfield Park or the Polo fields, and many of the details are still in flux. But it should be a lot of fun. We have teams currently signed up from the Cleveland area, as well as other parts of the state. We are trying to get more teams, either from the Cleveland-area, or anywhere else. If you know of a high school team out there, have them email me (jefflazarus@hotmail.com) or send me their information. This will be an all-day tournament and will be very cheap to etner. 3. Pickup games-The CDA is working, as we speak, about changing/updating our current website. One of the features we are implementing is a message board for pick-up games. So, if you regularly play a pickup game and you want others to know, email me the date, time, and location. Also, if you want to start a pickup game, send me the info as well, and we’ll get it posted. 4. SUMMER LEAGUE! Are you ready for it? We are trying a different format this year with summer league. In fact, there will be two leagues. One night a week there will be a full summer league, which mostly resembles last year’s league. There will be around 20 teams, it will be co-ed, the fields will be at Hawken and an unspecified field site on the west side. However, the team’s will be chosen by a “modified” draft. As always, you register in advance, and about a week before the season starts, there will be a draft. Captains will be allowed to pick players, but because you can either baggage players and retain a couple players from your team last year, you can start the draft with up to 6 players already on your team. Then you just pick the rest of your team. If you are interested in being a captain, email me at jefflazarus@hotmail.com . We STRONGLY encourage each team to have a male and a female captain. More details on the draft will be coming soon. The second league is more of a “clique” league. This league will have a maximum of 8 teams and will play on a different night than the first league. In this league, you enter your entire team, no draft. Players are allowed, and encouraged to play in both leagues, but each league has a cost of $50 (so to play both nights is $100). Each league will consist of 10 weeks of ultimate, along with a disc and a shirt. Sign-ups for both leagues will begin around May 1st, so keep checking this site for updates and information. Also, start thinking about your teams now and whether or not you want to be a captain.
The 10th annual 1040EZ Hat Tourney will be Saturday April 11th, 2009 at Garfield Park. This annual CDA event is a fun co-ed tourney for all levels and ages. Cost is $10/person with pre-registration required to guarantee a spot.

The Cleveland Disc Association has worked with Cleveland Plays to bring you a Spring Ultimate Frisbee League.
This league is being operated wholly by Cleveland Plays, an organization which is a for-profit running sports leagues here in town. They have been gracious enough to work with us scheduling the league so that it ends before our Summer League, and we’ve given them input on format and rules, as well as highlighting this opportunity for all the folks who’ve played in CDA events in the past.
So check it out! It can currently be seen on the front page of their site, and directly here (if you have a Cleveland Plays account set up).
They will be playing Tuesdays from 4/15 through 5/20 at the Kirtland Fields downtown just off Route 2/I-90. Each team will play for an hour that night, in a format more like other sports leagues.
Players will receive a shirt and a disc, sponsored by Mulberry’s. League champs get a sweatshirt! Mulberry’s is a bar with food and drinks, as well as indoor sports courts, just a short ten minute drive from the fields on the West bank of the Flats. They’ll have food and drink specials waiting to eliminate the deep-down body thirst… and hunger… you’re sure to generate.
Organize a team and sign up now!
